Comrade To Lam elected as the new President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

To Lam, a prominent figure in the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Minister of Public Security, has been elected as the new president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV). The decision was made during the seventh session of the 15th National Assembly in Hanoi, where 472 out of 473 deputies present voted in favor of his appointment.

The position of president had been vacant since March when Vo Van Thuong resigned from his roles as President of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, and member of the CPV Central Committee. To Lam, who is a member of the Politburo of the CPV Central Committee, will now assume these responsibilities.

Born on July 10, 1957, in Hung Yen Province, To Lam has a long history of service to the country. He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1981 and received his education at the National Political Academy named after Ho Chi Minh. Throughout his career, he has held various positions within the Ministry of Public Security, eventually becoming its head in 2016.

To Lam’s political influence has also extended to his involvement in the CPV. He became a member of the Central Committee in 2011 and has been a member of the Politburo since 2016. Additionally, he serves as the deputy head of the Central Steering Committee for the Fight against Corruption within the CPV.

The recommendation for To Lam’s presidency came from the CPV Central Committee on May 18, 2024. This decision reflects his extensive experience and dedication to the party and the nation.
