To Lam, a prominent figure in the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Minister of Public Security, has been elected as the new president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV). The decision was made during the seventh session of the 15th National Assembly in Hanoi, where 472 out of 473 deputies present voted in favor of his appointment.
The position of president had been vacant since March when Vo Van Thuong resigned from his roles as President of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, and member of the CPV Central Committee.
